HP Touchscreen Laptops

Hewlett-Packard is the company which is leading the market for personal computer sales is now planning to launch touch-screen technology in their laptop series. This new series would be based on touch screen services similar to their upcoming touch screen mobile phones.

Computer Market Shares

With these new series users can avoid the usage of keyboard & mouse for data input for specific programs and directly use their laptop’s screen as a input device and give their selections. HP computers last year launched ‘TouchSmart’ which is a big-screen desktop computer with better design and software.

Mini Notebooks also called as ‘Netbooks’ are also in development are going to be launched for 300$ or less with the size being half of a normal laptop computer. With the development in technologies the laptops are replacing desktop computers and the available models are upgraded with higher confirguration at the lowest prices. There is no official announcement on the launch date of these touchscreen laptops from HP but we can expect them by this year end.

Alienware M17 Gaming Laptop

The famous Dell’s brand, Alienware, the maker of the best gaming laptop computer models, finally launched a new laptop computer on the market powered by the world’s first mobile quad-core processor, the 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300. The Alienware M17 porttable gaming computer is also the company’s first model integrating the ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU performance gaming platform, which supports 2 or more discrete graphics processor units simultaneously. In addition, it features 3GB of high-speed DDR3 memory, dual ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 graphic cards with DirectX 10.1 support, and an 1920 x 1200 Extreme High-Definition LCD for an outstanding High Definition image, all packed for a starting price of less than $2,000.

If these are not enough for your gaming environment, then you may think of modifying the configuration and start adding some powerful elements to enhance both your gaming experience and the mobile entertainment. You can choose 4GB of DDR3 memory, dual 500GB hard drives with RAID 0 to store up to 160 games, 250 movies or 250,000 songs, Blu-ray Disc, and others.
Via the Alienware Command Center control panel you get access to the AlienFusion power management system, AlienSense facial recognition software, and the AlienTouch touchpad controls, all proviing several ways of customization for your notebook.

About the unique design, characteristic only to Alienware laptops, we have to mention the addition of a soft external later in matte black, called Stealth Black, which is meant to protect the system from fingerprints and scratches. The Skullscalp signature is not missing either.

“AMD and Alienware have come together to offer mobile gamers a revolutionary visual experience,” says Rick Bergman, senior vice president and general manager, Graphics Products Group, AMD. “Powered by twin ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 graphics engines, ATI CrossFireX technology enables an immersive LAN party gaming experience, dynamic gaming environments and stunning 3D effects for the hardcore PC gamer.”

BlackBerry Storm 9500

The BlackBerry Storm 9500 is RIM's first touchscreen BlackBerry device, incorporating many features found in the BlackBerry Bold 9000 along with an all-new display.

The touch-sensitive panel is clearly the most interesting thing on the BlackBerry Storm. It's a 3.25" 480 x 360 pixel panel that apparently gives user's the feeling of pressing down on a real key, which then lights up. Other companies (notably Motorola) do this using a technology called "haptics", exactly how the 9500 improves on this is not clear.

BlackBerry devices are all about messaging, and yet there's no physical keyboard on the 9500. RIM's approach is to use an on-screen keyboard, but cleverly they have two distinct versions - a SureType virtual keyboard (as found on the BlackBerry Pearl) is used in portrait (tall) mode, with a larger QWERTY keyboard for use in landscape (wide) mode. The Storm automatically switches between modes when rotated, so if you suddenly find that you need to do some more intensive typing than the SureType arrangement allows then it's a hassle-free transition.

Although cosmetically similar to the user interface on the BlackBerry Bold, the Storm's UI supports multi-touch, slides and taps in a way similar to the iPhone. No more messing around with tiny trackballs or jog wheels here, then. The clever looking web browser takes full advantage of these interface improvements.

The Storm 9500 also has a built-in GPS receiver and a navigation function. The GPS can also be used to automatically geotag photographs taken with the 9500's camera, which is a 3.2 megapixel unit with autofocus and flash.

It's hard to say if this is a business phone or a consumer device. For business users, the BlackBerry Storm 9500 does of course support BlackBerry push email, and it also comes with a document editor so that Microsoft Office files can be viewed and edited on the move. But on the flipside, the BlackBerry Storm also has a comprehensive multimedia player and a 3.5mm audio jack, so this is a capable music phone too.

This is a 3G device, the BlackBerry Storm 9500 has quad-band GSM and UMTS 2100 with support for HSDPA high-speed data. There's also a US version, the BlackBerry Storm 9530 which runs on CDMA/EV-DO networks. Neither version of the BlackBerry Storm supports WiFi, which is a serious omission in our view.

It's quite a hefty device at 155 grams and 113 x 62 x 14mm in size. The large 1400 mAh battery can give up to 5.5 hours talktime and 15 day standby time on 3G, which is impressive. The overall design is smart but unexciting, with just four physical keys on the front underneath the large screen. Internal memory is 1GB, expandable by up to 16GB using microSD cards.

The BlackBerry Storm 9500 is exclusive to Vodafone at launch, and we don't know if any other carriers will take it in the future. Vodafone say that the Storm should be available in Europe, India, Australia and New Zealand from next month. In the US, the Storm 9530 is exclusive to Verizon Wireless (45% owned by Vodafone). It's clear that Vodafone have done well to acquire exclusive rights to the BlackBerry Storm, and perhaps it compensates in some way for not having a relationship with Apple to push the iPhone. Vodafone have provided a video about the Storm here.

Overall, this seems to be an impressive but flawed device. It offers almost everything you could want from a smartphone except for WiFi, and for a top-end device such as the Storm this should be standard. If you are a corporate user on the Vodafone or Verizon network, then it does actually look like a good business device, especially with the clever virtual keyboard and long battery life.

Would we want one? Well, no.. we like the look of the Pearl Flip rather than the pocket-busting Storm. But it's certainly a useful addition to the BlackBerry range and we can see that it will appeal to many.

Samsung M3510 (GT-M3510 / Samsung Beat b)

An ultra-lightweight music phone, the Samsung M3510 (also called the Samsung Beat b) is aimed at those people who value multimedia playback over other features.

It's a pretty simple tri-band GSM device with GPRS and EDGE data, a 2" 240 x 320 pixel display and a 2 megapixel camera, but Samsung have put most of the effort into music. In addition to an MP3 / AAC / WMA compatible media player, the Samsung M3510 also features something called the "BEAT player", "Find Music by Shazam" and Samsung's Digital Natural Sound engine (DNSe), plus an automatic audio equaliser and digital rights management support. Usefully, the Samsung M3510 comes with a 3.5mm audio socket and also some dedicated media keys.

The Samsung M3510 weighs only 68 grams and is a shade less than 10mm thick. The 800 mAh battery can provide up to 5 hours of talktime, 10 days standby time or 15 hours of music playback.

Clearly, the M3510 won't appeal to everyone. But as we imagine that it will be quite inexpensive, then we can see that there might well be some interest. It could make an ideal Christmas present if bought with a prepay SIM.

Sony Ericsson G705

The Sony Ericsson G705 is an HSDPA capable 3.5G slider phone with GPS, a 3.2 megapixel camera and built-in WiFi, due for general release during Q4 2008.

It's not a top-of-the-range handset, but the presence of GPS marks it out as being something other than a midrange device. Perhaps what Sony Ericsson are trying to achieve is a mass market GPS phone, and certainly it seems to meet all the requirements.. except for one.

You see, the problem with the G705 (and indeed some other recent Sony Ericsson releases) is that it's quite dull. Although it's a tidily designed handset, it's hardly sexy. And Sony Ericsson's new naming convention is awfully unmemorable. G705? Try to remember the handset model tomorrow without looking it up. If this was an LG or Samsung handset then you can bet that they would have thought of some snazzy marketing name for it.

There are a few different variants of the G705, but the standard European one is a quad-band GSM phone with UMTS 2100, GPRS, EDGE and HSDPA data, plus WiFi, stereo Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The G705 has a 3.2 megapixel camera with a photo/video light (it appears to be fixed focus), there's a video calling camera too. Video clips and stills photos can be uploaded directly to a blog. The G705 can automatically geotag photographs with the current GPS coordinates.

The display is a 2.4" QVGA (240 x 320 pixel) panel in 262,000 colours. Unlike some other G-Series phones, the display is not touch-sensitive, which is a shame because that would be a useful thing to have with the G705's built in Wayfinder satellite navigation application. The G705 supports Google Maps too.

There's a media player plus an FM radio, and all the usual Sony Ericsson multimedia enhancements that you would expect. Usefully, the G705 comes with a 1GB memory card in the standard sales package.

The web browser is a little bit more sophisticated than usual, with one click access to Google and the ability to sense the orientation of the display and automatically swap between wide and tall formats. The G705 also has an email client, and can support Microsoft ActiveSync and instant messaging. There are a number of other personal information management applications too.

There are a couple of variants of the Sony Ericsson G705 - the G705u incorporates UMA support to allow VOIP (i.e. Internet telephone calls), and this will be exclusive to Orange. There is also an American version of the G705 which has UMTS 800 / 1900 / 2100 MHz and HSUPA which allows for high-speed uploads, this will be available during Q1 2009. In Sony Ericsson's old naming system, this would have been called the G705a.

The Sony Ericsson G705 weighs just 98 grams and has up to 4 hours talktime and 14 days standby time on 3G, 10 hours talktime and 16 days standby time on GSM. Standard colours are "Silky Gold" and "Majestic Black". The G705u will be available in "Luminous Black".

LG KS500

We don't have the full details of the new LG KS500 at present, but we can tell you that this is a 3.5G capable slider phone with a 3.0 megapixel camera, multimedia player and 320 x 240 pixel display.
LG KS500

It's a bit of an oddity in our opinion, as the KS500 is very similar in specification to the existing KT520 slider, which also has HSDPA and a slighly better camera. One immediately obvious thing is just how small the screen looks - although we don't have the exact specification of the KS500 we think that this is only a 2" display which we would certainly consider to be undersized.

INTEL

Intel Corporation is the world's largest semiconductor company and the inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors, the processors found in most personal computers. Founded on July 18, 1968 as Integrated Electronics Corporation and based in Santa Clara, California, USA, Intel also makes motherboard chipsets, network cards and ICs, flash memory, graphic chips, embedded processors, and other devices related to communications and computing. Founded by semiconductor pioneers Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore, and widely associated with the executive leadership and vision of Andrew Grove, Intel combines advanced chip design capability with a leading-edge manufacturing capability. Originally known primarily to engineers and technologists, Intel's successful "Intel Inside" advertising campaign of the 1990s made it and its Pentium processor household names

INTEL history

Intel was an early developer of SRAM and DRAM memory chips, and this represented the majority of its business until the early 1980s. While Intel created the first commercial microprocessor chip in 1971, it was not until the success of the personal computer (PC) that this became their primary business. During the 1990s, Intel invested heavily in new microprocessor designs and in fostering the rapid growth of the PC industry. During this period Intel became the dominant supplier of microprocessors for PCs, and was known for aggressive and sometimes controversial tactics in defense of its market position, as well as a struggle with Microsoft for control over the direction of the PC industry. The 2007 rankings of the world's 100 most powerful brands published by Millward Brown Optimor showed the company's brand value falling 10 places – from number 15 to number 25.
In addition to its work in semiconductors, Intel has begun research in electrical transmission and generation

INTEL corporate history

Intel headquarters in Santa Clara
Intel was founded in 1968 by Gordon E. Moore (a chemist and physicist) and Robert Noyce (a physicist and co-inventor of the integrated circuit) when they left Fairchild Semiconductor. A number of other Fairchild employees also went on to participate in other Silicon Valley companies. Intel's third employee was Andy Grove, a chemical engineer, who ran the company through much of the 1980s and the high-growth 1990s. Grove is now remembered as the company's key business and strategic leader. By the end of the 1990s, Intel was one of the largest and most successful businesses in the world.

Intel Corporation

Intel Corporation is the world's largest semiconductor company and the inventor of the x86personal computers. Originally known primarily to engineers and technologists, Intel's successful "Intel Inside" advertising campaign of the 1990s made it and its Pentium processor household names. series of microprocessors, the processors found in mosti

Intel was an early developer of SRAM and DRAM memory chips, and this represented the majority of its business until the early 1980s. While Intel created the first commercial microprocessor chip in 1971, it was not until the success of the personal computer (PC) that this became their primary business. During the 1990s, Intel invested heavily in new microprocessor designs fostering the rapid growth of the PC industry.

In addition to its work in semiconductors, Intel has begun research in electrical transmission and generation.
